Record A Table Story – Free Exhibition Workshop
Sunday, June 23, 3 p.m.
Space is limited - Register to attend

Let The Tablecloth Speak: The Embedded DNA Storytelling in Heirloom Linens exhibition includes an interactive audio track that uses real-life recordings made over the years by artist Jas Mardis of stories included in his fabric art quilts. These stories were recorded on older audio equipment that is no longer necessary. In this workshop, Jas will guide participants through the basics of cell phone recording as well as developing questions for getting stories from shy of reluctant family members. He will also discuss how to share those stories using social media and free website options.

This workshop will be held in the Art Gallery at the Lewisville Grand Theater and is limited to 20 registrants.

Jas Mardis is a 2014 Inductee to the Texas Literary Hall of Fame, an awarded Public Radio Commentator, an awarded Poet, Writer, Storyteller, Orator and Editor of KenteCloth: Southwest Voices of the African Diaspora, 2000, University of North Texas Press. Jas also has a Family Story Project workshop where these same techniques and processes have helped many families with archiving their history.

Let The Tablecloth Speak: The Embedded DNA Storytelling in Heirloom Linens will be available for viewing June 8 through July 6. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and during public events at the venue.
