Kimbell Art Museum

At fewer than 350 pieces, the permanent collection at the Kimbell Art Museum may be small. But don’t let the numbers fool you. What the museum lacks in size, it makes up for in quality. The permanent collection includes European, Asian and African artwork dating from ancient times to the middle of the 20 th century. Among the museum’s holdings are artwork by Bernini, Caravaggio, Cézanne, Duccio, Fra Angelico, Goya, Matisse, Mondrian, Monet, Picasso, Rembrandt and Velázquez.

In addition to its permanent collection, the museum offers special exhibitions. Past exhibitions at the museum include The Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt and Gauguin and Impressionism.

The largest of the attractions is the building in which it is housed. Designed by the late American architect Louis I. Kahn, the building opened its doors in 1972 and is recognized as an outstanding achievement in itself.

The Kimbell Art Museum also offers evening lectures, workshops, films and music performances.
